Re: Deleted / cut scenes : The empire strikes back

Yeah, I agree that scene is a little weird. It also wasn't very clear whether the droid was supposed to be there with them or it was on a view screen. There's no over the shoulder shot that shows 3PO looking at a screen or anything; the camera is either on 3PO or on the other droid - no "two-shot", as it were. Also, 3PO himself doesn't even look right. He looks too gold and shiny, compared to the way he looks in the film.

Exactly! That was a big part of the new droid looking like he was 'inserted' since you never saw where he was in ref to the other two, on screen or in the same shot, as already mentioned.

I have a theory that the droid you see is actually from Disney's "Star Tours" ride:

Skip to the 1:44 mark and judge for yourself.

(But yes, I agree he was inserted to make the scene work.)

By the way, these deleted scenes threads are awesome!

Your right! After posting about how the radio drama with Mark Hamill's voice was used in the Luke in training video in order for it to have sound, I did end up thinking about the droid, and I too brainstormed it could be from Star Tours, intermixed with vintage footage. Great Job on recognizing that!

I'm thrilled you think the deleted thread scenes are awesome. I think your awesome!
