Vendor List for Fedoras - Information Thread Only

If we don't already have one, perhaps we could start with a list of all the known fedora makers who offer Indiana Jones fedoras. Maybe it could be broken into two parts: 'hand made custom' or 'custom hand made'and 'factory made.'

    To start:

    Factory made Indiana Jones fedoras:

    The Downtowner by Todd's Costumes
    The Raider by Todd's Costumes
    The Uptowner by Todd's Costumes

    http://www.toddscostumes.com/costume...ana-jones-hat/

The above link is for all of Todd's IJ hats. The page has links for the above three hats.

Akubra Fed IV from Hats Direct
    http://hatsdirect.com/federation/index.html

    Akubra Adventurer from David Morgan
    http://www.davidmorgan.com/product_i...oducts_id=1128

    Christys' Hats
    http://christys-hats.com/adventurer-new-all.htm

    Herbert Johnson
    http://www.herbert-johnson.co.uk/retail.html
I couldn't find a direct link for the Poet. That's their main contact page.

The Poet by Swaine Adeney Brigg
    http://www.swaineadeney.co.uk/products/poet_hat/

257 Open Crown Stetson from Miller Hats
    http://www.millerhats.com/miller_fedora/257_fedora.html

Keppler Hat Co./Beaver Brand Hats' "Keppler" Indiana Jones styled Fedora from Lee Keppler
    Lee's Contact Info: (619) 647-6744 Rotl007@aol.com

    'The Henry' by Adventurebilt Deluxe
    http://www.adventurebiltdeluxe.com/henry.php

There are others but do we really want to make people aware of stuff like Dorfman-Pacific?

Hand made custom Indiana Jones fedoras. Some of these guys have distinct models and some make a hat for you in either a standard way, as in, if you ask for a Raiders hat, it will arrive a very certain way, or with modifications if you ask for them:

    Penman Hat Co.
    http://www.penmanhats.com/Indy_Hats.html

Steele & Jones (Explorador and various models)
    http://www.steele-jones.com.ar/en/sombreros.htm

    Fedoraiders
    http://www.fedoraiders.com/hats.shtml

Fedoraiders specializes in the 'Streets of Cairo' hat from Raiders of the Lost Ark, and he does a darn fine job, judging by the pictures and reviews I have read.

    Advintage
    http://www.advintagefedora.de/shop/

Advintage sells their own, as well as Christy's, and Herbert Johnson hats

    Falcon Park Hattery
    http://www.falconparkhattery.com/Cle...storation.html

    Garrison Hatters
    http://garrisonhatters.com/index.html

    Peters Brothers
    https://www.pbhats.com/private/INDY_CUSTOM/Default.htm

PB also offers a number of stock other-brand Indy hats, but the above link is for their custom Indy hats.

    Adventurebilt Deluxe/Marc Kitter
    http://www.adventurebilthats.com/

    Adventurebilt Hat Co./Steve Delk
    http://www.adventurebilthats.com/

I am not including pricing. It is better, afaic, for potential customers to go to the websites and look at the hats before out-and-out dismissing a hat solely on price.

Of course, my list may very well not be all-inclusive. Please feel free to add as needed.

Anyone who owns one of these hats please post a write-up and pictures of your hat(s). If you own more than one, comparisons are particularly interesting reading, afaic.

I own Akubra Fed IVs and a Fed III, as well as an Adventurebilt Henry. I will post write-ups in the hat forum shortly.

Re: Vendor List for Fedoras - Information Thread Only

From what I can tell, the hat is delivered to Keppler pretty much made. Lee shapes it. To me, that's a factory hat, as in the way a Henry is a factory made hat. I believe John Penman himself refers to the Henry as a factory/machine made hat. The hats are cut, and sweats and liners are sewn in at a factory, and John installs the ribbon and shapes the crowns if so desired by customers, yes John?

Based on this, I'd say Adventure Supply Keppler hats are factory hats.

I do not put on the ribbon to the Henry's. They come ready made to me. I shape them to the customers request.

To me there are three ways to breakdown how hats are made to have a better understanding.

1- factory/machine made=. A bunch of people working in a factory using blocking, pouncing, sewing machines, etc, etc.
2- custom/handmade= made by one person sewing, pouncing and blocking without the use of a machine.
3- hybrid=A, this is where you have a combination. Let's say a custom hatter that uses sewing machine, pounces, blocking machines.
it's a custom made hat made by one guy but uses a machine. It's custom but not by hand. B, then you have a team of people doing some of the work in let's say a hat shop ei: optimo some of the work is done by hand sone by machine but is done with a assembly line style like a factory hat.

So does Lee do with his hats what you do with the Henry? If so (or if not), how would you classify Lee's hats and your Henry? Custom or factory, if you had to pick one?

Both are factory hats but unlike most production/factory hats the Henry's specs change according to size. Most factory hats are one size specs fits all sizes. The other thing that is different about the henry then other factory hats is that most factory hats use in house materials. Where as the henry materials are source by Marc Kitter and sent to the factory and he also instructs them on how he wants the hats made. Most dont go to those lengths to get the finall product.

I would put both in the factory category of your listings.

Updated the 1st post with Lee Keppler's information and moved it to the factory hats section.

Is the Henry still being produced at all. If not, would we want to add it?

I believe John said he would not be making/selling new Henrys, but Marc might still be. This link is still up:

The Henry is still being offered from Marc. I'm just not selling it anymore because I just don't have the time.
