View Full Version : The Stones of Lost Time - Part 1

06-18-2015, 02:30 AM
Here is Part One of 'The Stones of Lost Time'. Our member created 'The Secret Chronicles of Indiana Jones' comic. Again, a huge thank you to Weston and Crismans for sharing this with us. I'm posting this up here as I want to make it available to our members to read and enjoy. And this is a good place to allow for convenient discussion.

What I want is to get this published as an article on our site/forum. It would be our first one and be really cool. But I'm having difficulty figuring out the software. I will get it figured out, but until then..let me introduce, "The Stones of Lost Time":

I'd be nitpicking if I said I wish it were in color. :)

That really looks spectacular, though! The angles and artwork are just as good as Marvel's first year Indy comics. (and I dare say surpasses much of Marvel's third (and final) year of The Further Adventures of Indiana Jones.)

The comic (screw it, let's call it a graphic novel) really captures the spirit and energy of what I expect from an Indiana Jones adventure.

Looking forward to part 2! :)

Thanks guys, amazing work!
Looking foward to part 2.

Great work, guys, artwork and story both! Looking forward to the next chapter! :)

Fantastic job... But if it's not too late, last page top panel should read: "That's where my father disappeared" (not "were").

I want to print it and color it myself! Really great work

Awesome! What a fun read, can't wait for more!

Oops! Thanks for catching that. I've already fixed it and will post the corrected page.

I'm glad you guys like it! I've really enjoyed working on this. My aim is to have an eight to ten page episode ready to post every month now that it's rolling along. Crisman and I decided to go with B&W for a couple reasons. First, it was already taking much longer to get the first one done than we wanted, and second, we both love B&W comics. Color is still an option, maybe after the story is complete I'll color the whole thing.
This was first conceived as a comic strip along the lines of 'Prince Valiant'. After some discussion with Crisman, we decided to go this direction and emulate Marvel's 'The Further Adventures of Indiana Jones'.

My daughter modeled the character of Juanita; It was fun seeing here sitting on top of the washing machine with a rifle on her shoulder!

Thanks for all the kind words! One of the best things about writing for comics is getting the actual pages that you've only "seen" before in your mind. It's even more gratifying when the artwork is being knocked out of the park! I've been really working to come up with some wild things for Weston to draw and keep with the spirit of the characters.

Waiting to get an X-ray on my foot. Sometime later today I should be able to access my computer and change out page 10. Weston has already sent it to me. I just need to do the 10min process of downloading to the computer, uploading to photobucket, then replacing the image code in the post. Sorry it's taking most of today to get this done.

This is just great work guys!! Really really well done:goodjob:

I like the idea of coloring these pages ourselves....would be sort of cool to see some of the friend's color renderings in comparison!!Indy_popcorn

Waiting to get an X-ray on my foot.

I hope isn't a serious injury, my friend.
Wish you a fast recovery! ;)

A red hot stove, a bone saw, a bottle of brandy and a stick to bite on...man, we can have that foot off in no time! If your going to go that route remember, the brandy goes first.

All that aside, I hope everything's all right.

Page ten has been updated to reflect the spelling correction. Ankle doesn't need to be removed after all..Weston.. But, thanks anyway Indy_cheers The Dr. was more interested in discussing how stupid I was in ramming my foot into the side of a post going 30 on a scooter while playing a ferocious game of fetch, tug, race with my dog with no shoes or helmet on, than in treating it. Nothing broken, just swelling like a ballon and nasty bruising and scrapes.

But, back to...The Stones of Lost Time....I'm keeping the typo page. Who knows, someday it may be a collector's item :banllama:

Forgot to mention before, I love the "No llamas!" line. Great echo to Indy's "No camels!" line to Sallah in LC.

Thanks again for all of the positive feedback. I'm trying to go for a real "serial" feel here. I think that's what the movies did: take the tropes of the genre and make them fresh. Hopefully, I'll be able to pull off the same thing. If not, we'll definitely have some pretty pictures to look at!

One member has let me know that the images are showing up as red x's and they are unable to view them. They're showing up fine for me right now on my iPhone and I haven't had any problems viewing them with Safari.

Is anyone else not able to view them?

Using Firefox and no problem. I've refreshed the page 1, and the images came up again.
All ok.-

Thank you for checking Diego. I just copied and pasted the image codes from photobucket like I do for all the images I post. So, I don't know how to fix the issue.

Just want to say how great it is to see this kind of project come to fruition as I think everyone who sees it will appreciate the work, time and effort that goes into it. So, Kudos to both Crismans and Weston.

Also, If you guys ever need any support or help from Indymag you know where our door is.

Are we able to share this elsewhere such as facebook etc.

07-09-2015, 03:55 PM
It's Weston's and Crismans rodeo and up to them to comment on what sites they'd like their work linked to, but as far as our site goes we are very excited that they shared their project here.

07-09-2015, 05:21 PM
No worries. Would be great to see it get a wider exposure. Maybe they could do an poster advertising it we could share.

I'm glad you like it, and recognize the effort that goes into a project like this, particularly from part-timers like Crismans and I. I just sent you a pm.

I was feeling bored on the weekend and thought I'd throw a little colour on the title panel to see what it looked like. Hope you don't mind! (And with the heat we've been enduring here lately, I kinda feel like Indy in that image!) :D

Jeff, you convinced me that this comic needs some color, at least the cover does. Check out the thread I just posted in the 'Secret Chronicles' section.

08-28-2015, 06:26 PM
The cover and inset in color has been added to the first post.

I like it in color JeffDJ ban-llama

I'm glad you like it! Part two is coming along, slower than I'd like, but will be finished soon.

12-16-2015, 05:12 PM
For those who would like to ready it as a comic on-line. I have created a link via issue with Weston's permission. We've also done a small piece in the mag and will do a review in the January/Feb issue.

Ps. How's it going guys?

Any news on an update. Happy to give an helping hand.

An update, and an apology for the delay. I have taken on a new job, which comes with new educational requirements, and there are ongoing family issues that have do be taken care of. That said, I have been working on the next installment, and it will be finished soon. By now, I know better than to promise a deadline.

Thanks for the offer! If anything, I could use some help with lettering.

Here's a bit of it, so you guys know it's still going. A panel in progress; Indy and Juanita about to take make a dare devil escape from the bad guys as they are pursued through the jungle.

The quest continues! Thanks for your patience.

For all of us waiting for the next episode, I have great news. Weston pm'd me A preview of what's coming next. I don't want to ruin it for everyone, but I'm excited for all of us to see it when it's finished.
