Depends on which version you watch- in the theatrical version, you have the voice-over explaining that Gaff left Rachel alive because he figured she was going to expire anyway, but Tyrell told Deckard she had no expiration date. In all other versions of the film, Rachel has an expiration date... and so does Deckard, if you believe he too is a replicant!
I've never really bought into the theory that Deckard is a replicant. I know there are clues, such as that moment where the light shines in his eyes producing an effect akin to the replicants (coincidence!) and the unicorn dream (how does that mean he's a replicant?). Maybe I'm just in denial or feel that it lessens the character somehow, but replicant or not, it's still a great movie!

I don't like the theory myself either, but there is a bit of logic to it. The unicorn dream ties in to the end where Deckard finds an origami unicorn in his apartment, left there by Gaff. Deckard earlier in the film tells Rachel a story about her childhood about a spider- something he knows because her memories were implanted by the Tyrell Corporation and are not genuinely hers.

By that same token, Deckard's dream of a unicorn was an implanted memory, because Gaff's unicorn let him know that Gaff knew his thoughts... because he was a replicant.

On the other hand, it doesn't make sense that Deckard is a replicant- he doesn't have the super strength that the others do, and why would the police hire him to hunt his own kind? I'm probably a bit in denial myself, but I guess the better movies give an audience something to debate.

    Agreed.

I had known about the "Deckard is a replicant" theory before I actually saw Blade Runner but I never got the idea that he was either for all the same reasons.

Righty-O ! I'm also guessing big money making rolls are well behind him now if he doesn't take on these projects. He's done so many diverse rolls over the years, he had a great career, and not typcast, so, I'm guessing he doesn't mind doing SOLO and DECKARD at this stage of his career. (Also, the more he says he doesn't want to play the part anymore, the more they will pay him to do it.)

^ By the same token, if he's only doing it for the paycheck, I would hope he wouldn't be "phoning it in," as it were. For example, I would sooner see Ford bringing everything he's got to fully realize Deckard on the screen again than seeing him basically "cosplay" the character for 2 hours (though I know he's too much of a pro to do that).

    Found an interesting link:

Supposedly, Ryan Gosling is co-starring with Harrison Ford for the sequel, beginning filming in 2016. The movie takes place decades after the original story, and Ridley Scott will not be returning to direct it.

Looks interesting. The teaser doesn't really show much tho. Hopefully Ridley plans to get Vangelis to do the score too, otherwise one part of the equation will be lost.
