Just a quick bump - did he ever return to COW? Anything new happen since we left?

Re: Help, I am falling asleep, someone call Patterson

Nothing has indicated that Todd Hayes a.k.a. "Patterson" a.k.a. "Marcus60" has reared it's ugly head. Overall, besides a "sprinking" of the same old BS by admins and moderators, it has quiet. What is amusing is there is a thread asking what happened to all the "old timers" on the board. Would love to just flat out post a reply stating that the "old timers" were banned because of challenging the validity of the so-called "industry insider" and/or not playing the "compliance" game. What I would like to believe that the more intelligent long time members finally saw through all the deception and lies and that was the reason they moved on.

Ren, you were mentioned in that thread:

Apart from that, the thread is not terribly interesting.

I actually felt tainted going back there, and will likely not log in again for years, if ever.

Re: Help, I am falling asleep, someone call Patterson

Well there you go Renderking Fisk. Sounds like you're fondly remembered

I suspect the admins and mods are what ruined that site. Mark Cross "eeyore" in particular along with his sidekicks Todd Hayes and Mike Marosy. The rest followed along and turned it into a little fiefdom where they figured out how to squeeze free gear out of the vendors by allowing them on the site and then pimping the products to the members.

I came across this thread from awhile ago http://www.fortuneandglory.org/threa...quot-But-it-is

Here's the deal on that (from the free jackets thread):
    http://www.fortuneandglory.org/threa...ll=1#post13163

And my response from the payola thread outlining the entire details of how they scammed Tony Nowak:
    http://www.fortuneandglory.org/threa...ull=1#post4837
This is absolutely true. Here's the deal as Tony relayed it to me. Tony received a call from Patterson and ended up on in a three way conversation with Patterson, Michaelson, and MMarosy. They represented themselves as being involved with the Crystal Skull film, understood that Tony made complimentary jackets for some of those persons involved in the production/film and we're calling him for theirs, dropped Bernie's name, and added a sales pitch for why it would be a good idea as RCSignals outlined above. Tony took it at face value and per at least Michaelson's request made the jackets with features like the zipper that were exactly like what was provided to the movie. In fact it was insisted upon. Originally, IndyFan was used by Patterson I believe as something he was in charge of. It took me awhile to explain to Tony that COW was where he needed to go and where he needed to have me make his posts because he had it in his head from that conversation with Patterson, etc. all that it was IndyFan. Anyway, Patterson was at one time in charge, but sometime during the early part of COW I think he gave it up which explains the fact he has no, zero, zip accountability. He may not be admin or mod or whatever and likes to talk about how he's just a regular subject to the kings like the rest of the unwashed masses, but it's BS. It's all BS.

Before Bernie and Tony had a chance to connect and for Tony to ask about it, he had already made their complimentary CS jackets and agreed to make Patterson a complimentary Raiders jacket out of shrunken lambskin. As soon as he agreed to do this for Patterson he was bait and switched and received an email a few days later from Patterson saying how his right hand man, binkmeister rick, who kept him informed of and updated of all important things COW related and how he needed Tony to make a complimentary jacket for his right hand man instead. I've seen and read the email. All the emails actually as I helped Tony with his email system. Tony felt trapped and used, but did it anyway.

And then the Michaelson gating issue with his CS jacket took the cake. Tony sent me actual copies of all the email exchanges that took place with Michaelson on this and asked me to post them for the world to see because now it was an issue of his craftsmanship and work and not just scamming him. What happened there is there was a history of emails of asking for a new zipper and other changes once the jacket was received. No offer to pay for these changes was ever offered and it was made in the first place exactly as requested. Then in order to pressure Tony, an invention of a gating issue was invented and the solution would be of course the changes that had already been requested and by the way switch out the zipper while you're at it. "And God Bless him bomber, he got that jacket for free." The truth is Tony did many, many things out of the goodness of his heart and was taken advantage of a few times. He even went through with things once he realized it because he said I gave my word and I'll do what I promised. Honoring his word and doing what he promised is something he was passionate about. If the promise or agreement was obtained through deception he still wanted to do what he said he would.

As to why he didn't tell them to get lost. Two reasons. He'd been told that all Indiana Jones gear products and access to the customers who buy them go through Indy Gear. He thought of his customers as his friends and though he was frustrated with technology and had me help him with it, he was always thinking of his, "I need help to post a message to all my friends over at IndyFan", friends who hung out at COW and didn't want to upset the powers that be that could then in turn say bad things about him and potentially damage his business or talk bad about him to his friends. He also didn't believe in holding a grudge. We had a few arguments about that. Especially when he had me write the post for him word for word complimenting Patterson and thanking him after the COW event last year. I said, Tony you've got to be kidding me. You're causing me actual pain here. He laughed and said, "no pain, no gain." He believed in peace and trying to live with others even if they wrong you. His story of his journey from Poland to the US and the horrible things he witnessed humans doing to each other made a serious impression on him.

Oh and then there's the big talk and "shared" information about the emails sent to Neil Cooper. I'll have to grab copies of all Patterson's posts regarding his "take" on them and then post the actual emails themselves. That'll give you some good insight as to the accuracy of the "information" that gets relayed.

It's corrupt boys. It's all corrupt.
And as relayed by RCSignals http://www.fortuneandglory.org/threa...ull=1#post4717
After word got out that Tony Nowak made the jacket for Harrison Ford, he received a phone call from someone claiming to be a movie executive who had ties with the production of KOTCS. As such an important movie insider a demand was made for the same consideration given to the rest of the movie upper echelon, that is complimentary jackets as the one was made for Harrison Ford. This person also claimed to be representing other executives who happened to have a web site that specialised in the clothing and props of Indiana Jones. His partners would also require these jackets. Tony was told any vendor of Indiana Jones items who was anybody was on this site representing their products, even the fellow who made the hats for KOTCS. This person let it be known that no such vendor could make it in the Indiana Jones market place without the endorsement and support of this group and their web site and forums. It was suggested that very positive review would be given for these complimentary jackets. It was also suggested that less than favourable review could be given without them.
Tony Nowak though it odd but had made jackets for other principles of the movie and agreed to make these. Positive written testimonials were given and Tony had them placed on his own web pages.
Later after talking to one of the real movie principles (the one who had talked Tony into making the jackets for the public, as Tony had not intended to do so originally) Tony was told he had been taken in, that this guy who contacted him was crazy.
Tony was again contacted by the original person who started this almost extortion, and told he understood Tony had received an original Raiders jacket, and as before he wanted one of these. Shortly after this the person contacted Tony again saying there was one more person he needed a jacket for. A certain fellow was his right hand man on the forum and he couldn't run them without him, but this fellow had fallen on hard times, and he wanted to reward him with a (free) jacket. Could Tony make this second jacket for him instead? Tony at this point felt embarrassed and stupid for the first round but agreed to make another jacket as he did not want trouble. Tony gave the person a choice of KOTCS or Raiders jacket, the person chose a Raiders jacket, which was delivered at the 'Summit' of 2008.
Tony never met the first person to have contacted him, or heard from him again, until the Summit of 2009.
The story of their relationship has been told differently and grown since Tony's passing. Some bizarre tales have been told at the expense of Tony Nowak.

and that is a short form.

And THAT....is how they operate over there.

"Eeyore," said Owl, "Christopher Robin is giving a party."
"Very interesting," said Eeyore. "I suppose they will be sending me down the odd bits which got trodden on. Kind and Thoughtful. Not at all, don't mention it."

Re: Help, I am falling asleep, someone call Patterson

It's really nice to see that after all that happened I'm remembered fondly by some of them.

See, that’s really weird that this is all happening all at once; Monday afternoon three people I haven’t heard from in a while called me up out of the blue asking me ‘what’s up’ and how things have been since the last time I was on COW. I thought something significant happened and people wanted my take on it… turns out someone was just reminiscing about the good old days.

That inspired me to go back and look at the old albums I created for other gearheads, gatherings and summits and hosted them on The Fedora Chronicles. I even reformatted some of them like Mike French’s “History Of IndyGear” and I’m in the process of creating an album of all the photoshop work I did for the folks and see if I can rekindle some of that old magic via a positive “remember when…” for some of the folks.

    Reformatted Travel Journals

That's a link to all the ones I've done so far.

I have a project to do for this final Photoshop/Illustrator class and I have to create a mock-up for a brand new website using all the skills I’ve learned during the past couple of years. I’m allowed to do whatever I want so long as there’s a defined theme and I follow through. I’ve been debating on using this as an opportunity to create new backgrounds for The Fedora Chronicles for specific sections… I asked this via Twitter this morning: “What should a ‪Vintage‬ or ‪retro-centric‬ website look like? Not just ‪‎Indiana Jones‬ theme, but a 1930's/1940's ‪World War 2‬ period style site?”

That’s pretty much what I’m working on now, using what’s on my mind right now and this project that’s due in about a month in an effort to accomplish two things at once.

I haven't had a chance to look through all of them. But, I checked out the the first summit at Joe's place. Interesting seeing the gear from back then. Close enough seemed the majority back then. It's amazing seeing all the vendors available now with gear that can be from practically any scene from any of the movies. Especially fedoras and jackets. Maybe this is the golden age of Indy Gear...34 years later

I was talking to one of the aforementioned folks about how The Fedora Chronicles is now 10 years old and how this all started. Originally all I wanted to do was create a space so that everyone can do the things they wanted to do on line but couldn’t do on COW because it wasn’t allowed. I wanted to do what I was already doing on The Indy Experience and expand on that further with a broader theme – not just fans of the Indy Films but also every period adventure film, ever classic movie, every prohibition/depression/WWII movie and book. The works.. I also wanted to create permanent albums of everyone’s adventures and special events that wouldn’t get deleted during a purge when the size of the forum got too big.

To be honest, that’s what I should have done and kept to myself in most instances while doing what I set out to do on The FC. When people complained about what they couldn’t do on COW and I told people “you can do that on The FC and Electric Speakeasy” that’s when things started to turn to crap for me with the target I painted on my back.

One of the people I talked to on the phone last week asked me if I could objectively talk about what happened COW without getting angry, frustrated or sad. I don’t know, like my wife said things turned really personal and mean-spirited on both sides.

I never lost a moment’s sleep confronting the staff on their double standards and how they allowed bullying to go on their site by one of their Admin/Staff members. I never regret calling them out for Patterson’s comments about how he would rather pay a stripper rather than get one of Tony Novak’s jackets – then turned around and lied about he was “good friends” after Mr. Novak died. Not a single time did I ever feel bad about asking them to police their own and make sure they apply the rules to everyone. I never felt ashamed when I called him on the times he was picking on mere kids who had the misfortune of stepping on a land-mine AKA asking “stupid” questions.

What I regret is my venom towards some people who were trying to keep the peace and appease everyone and trying to maintain the status quo. In retrospect some of them were doing the best they could to fix the problems without jeopardizing their relationships or positions with the other staff members on COW.

Going back and reading my posts it’s obvious that I was angry and the anger was compounded by them not getting as angry as I was. My whole attitude was “How can you not see how wrong this is?”

Could we have handled this better? Could they have handled it any better? It’s just as easy to second-guess yourself and people in the past via hind-sight. I did what I did based on how was I was feeling and what I thought I knew at the time. I feel differently and I know more about myself and the world around me, so of course I would have done things differently. But would it change anything? Who knows?

Is this really The Golden Era of Indy Gear? It has to be thanks to many other websites such as “Fortune And Glory,” “The Indy Lounge” and “The Fedora Chronicles” with open social media like Facebook and Twitter. We don’t have one small group acting like the gatekeepers of “The Truth.” We’re now at a point where I can promote a new hatter or jacket maker and that new vendor will either fail or succeed based only on their work and turn-around time between the time of taking an order and delivering the product. Success isn’t depending on whether or not an admin of a fan-site likes you anymore.

The only problem we have now is censorship on Facebook which is becoming more and more obvious. Soon something else is going to take Facebook’s place and we’ll have to start all over again.
I posted elsewhere about my honest proposal for fixing Indy Gear. I had some really great ideas there but the most I can hope for is to see everyone create their own web pages and then link back to one another.
