    Todd's new Outdoorsman boots

These found their way to my doorstep today, courtesy of UPS-

Not bad. Not bad at all. Looking very nice. From all preliminary indications, how's the production quality along with the fit?

I had originally ordered 8.5s, but I when I read they ran large I emailed Todd's and asked to be sent 8s instead. These are marked 8s, but I'd put the fit between 8.5 and 9- just about perfect for my foot- roomy enough that I can wear thick hiking socks if I wanted, but not too roomy. The leather smells amazing! The stitching seems really tight with no skipped stitches, and the soles are attached as well as those on my expensive Danner's. The soles are really stiff- unsure if that's due to the newness of the boot or the shank, or both. The shoelace hooks seem a little lightweight; I've never seen Aldens in person so I don't know if they're the same hooks or not. Overall, I'm really impressed with quality of these boots.

I have to agree, the boots do look great.

CM, now I'm confused. I usually wear a size 9 but was thinking about getting Todd's boots in an 8. Now I'm wondering if an 8.5 would be better?

    They're $150 at http://www.toddscostumes.com/costume...a-jones-boots/

As far as sizing goes, I'd just email Todd your normal shoe size and ask what he recommends you get- the pre-ordered boots ran about a size large, but he may have corrected that by now.

Thanks, cm. If there's one thing I'm the most hesitant to buy through the mail, it's shoes.

Yep. Same here. I've had nothing but bad luck with buying shoes without trying them on. It's only after multiple buys of Alden's along with a few returns that I now know my size and can just order them.

You could ask Todd what his exchange policy is. This way you could try them on and exchange them for a different size if you need to.
