View Full Version : One more TNO Main Hero by Riley Barrie

01-19-2011, 10:37 AM
Well I just heard from Riley and at long last.... my Nowak Raiders jacket is on it's way. I have wanted a TNO since I first heard that Tony was copying a screen used jacket but I couldn't find the hide I had in mind. After a long and discouraging search I finally hit gold last September: Gunslinger had already found some resembling Tony's 30 year old shrunken lamb hides. In one of his posts there were some black SL samples and he mentioned "a new project". I had to get nosy... and the timing was incredible: he was flying out to sort through the pallet two days later. He busted his arse finding hides for 3 jackets ('faststreets' as well) and then spent DAYS matching them to the jacket panels by what he saw onscreen and using his existing TNO jacket.

I was in hog heaven at this point, then he offered up his Main Hero specs and my head exploded. I am unutterably grateful to be receiving this gift, considering the amount of time and work Kurt has done to get the jackets he has. (Don't get me started about his hats!) :hail: THANK YOU KURT

I also want to thank Riley for keeping TNO open and continuing to make world-class jackets (and putting up with us nuts like Tony did).

The jacket should arrive in the next day or so and I will post pics right out of the bag!

Great news! If it's even half as good as Kurts you're a lucky lucky man :)

01-19-2011, 11:28 AM
It's so cool, man. I'm so excited for you. Can't wait until you get it.

01-19-2011, 12:02 PM
Congrats! Can't wait to see it! I'm still waiting to hear from Riley on the status of my new Raiders jacket. Hopefully soon, as the anticipation is killing me!

01-19-2011, 05:51 PM
Contests I'm very happy for you. You will just love your jacket. On top of all the care that Riley and company put into the jackets. Riley is a real stand up guy.

Again, can't wait to see it.

I have no doubt that this will be one more thing of absolute beauty.

01-20-2011, 11:57 PM
You must be excited. Quite the project. Can't wait to see what it looks like on you.

01-22-2011, 01:30 AM
missed the delivery :hairguy: but I will pick it up in the morning and post pics

01-22-2011, 01:32 AM
Congrats! Can't wait to see the pics!

01-22-2011, 01:38 AM
Looking forward to the pictures! I hate that I had to pass up on Kurt's leather. It's truly beautiful.

01-22-2011, 02:05 AM
you aren't down pounding on the door at the Post Office? :noob:

01-22-2011, 06:47 PM

I had him make a secret pocket with velcro behind the label and the # I asked for is today's date. Too much!

01-22-2011, 07:14 PM
Nice. how is the fit?

01-22-2011, 07:24 PM
Beautiful ! I'm jealous all over again

01-22-2011, 07:47 PM
The fit is right on all around and I am about to get it wet... so in a couple days it will fit. The hide is much heavier than I expected, super tough and stiff.

01-22-2011, 10:07 PM
Riley did an AWESOME job with that sucker! Congrats, mate. Can't wait to see it on you post water treatment.

01-23-2011, 12:55 PM
Very Nice!

01-23-2011, 01:40 PM
What are the differences not counting sized to fit of course between the specs of yours and gunslingers. I noticed the back panel edge looks just off the seams. Any other differences.

01-23-2011, 02:24 PM
No that's the one thing I changed, I had him line the edge of the back panel with the stitching of the yoke.

Gunslinger's collar specs are blowing my mind though. After wearing the jacket for a couple of hours the collar (on its own) fell into the shape of the Main Hero. :o The curved zip, the rolling collar, and the droopiness of the right side. Incredible job Kurt and Riley! :toast: I am just about to wet it and tomorrow I will have pics up! :P

Are you doing the full washing machine cycle with spin followed by the high heat dryer method or just doing a quick spray and wear dry?

01-23-2011, 02:50 PM
Spray down/ wear dry

01-23-2011, 02:51 PM
"HWaltonJonesJr. Phd"....BEAUTIFUL jacket. ;D And another GREAT job by Riley and company. :goodjob: :toast:
And seeing both your jacket and "Gunslinger's" latest jacket...dammit, dammit all to hell...getting the "itch" for another TNO jacket from Riley. :banghead:

Enjoy the jacket, wear it on many adventures. :whip:

01-23-2011, 07:54 PM
Did you wear it at all while drying.

01-23-2011, 08:51 PM
Shit I have been lugging it around since 10am. I just had it off for 20 min or so but it is drying fast in most spots... but the RH chest panel is blank atm.

01-23-2011, 09:21 PM
Don't forget my advice re the striations, mate. You don't want to lose them.

That fits you SO well, Jason! Just FANTASTIC. You really nailed your measurements. I mean you're a really tall guy and it still looks exactly the proportions it should. Awesome.

Gotta love this:

01-25-2011, 01:05 AM
Just terrific. I'm so jealous that I didn't have the spare cash when this leather came up. It just looks terrific.

01-25-2011, 01:10 AM
And check this out. Not the perfect angle for a comparison, but I think looking at the 2 shots you can see they are identical. Check out the pockets and vertical proportions of everything! ANd the perfect shoulder seam dropoff. Again, great tape measure work, Jason. ;)

01-25-2011, 01:14 AM
Lol. I was working on that same raven bar comparison. You beat me to it. :hairguy: Good stuff :toast:

 I'd say that's #6 on your list.

01-25-2011, 01:23 AM
Haha. Brilliant minds, mate.

Outstanding jacket!

Good grief. The sun finally popped out and I ran outside, dragging my girlfriend behind me to get a few shots. It's hard to capture the beauty of this hide but these are a bit better...

That is really 'taking shape'. The hide is the right thickness to get that look.

02-18-2011, 12:34 AM
Yeah, this is really great. Mine hasn't got the grain popping like that yet (noting RH chest there) as I've not worn it at all.

But what really strikes me about this hide is how kind of TODAY / COOL it looks, as well as being S.A. for the desert scenes.

02-22-2011, 08:20 AM
Wow! That is looking better and better.....

02-28-2011, 11:24 PM
Yeah, this is really great. Mine hasn't got the grain popping like that yet (noting RH chest there) as I've not worn it at all.

I noticed that when the MH jacket was new the grain appears more subtle and the striations less spread out.

Jason, with yours you'll also notice that like the top photo your striations can appear as one solid horizontal line, but when stretched at a 45 degree angle, pop to more of an individual bubbled appearance like the lower shot.

09-28-2011, 05:55 PM
This jacket is super bitchin'! I REALLY hope Riley can make me one of these when he gets back!

09-28-2011, 07:19 PM
The hides used were four off and provided by Gunslinger if I remember correctly.

09-28-2011, 07:53 PM
You're totally right NB. Unfortunately I don't think these hides are available anymore! But getting one done in some nice n' smooth Shrunken Lambskin would be pretty cool too! :toast:

09-29-2011, 04:21 AM
Yeah, those hides are pretty hard to come by. I found them almost by accident from a guy I know. I think there were 18 in all that made 2 jackets with one spare left for each of us in case repairs are needed.

09-29-2011, 08:45 PM
Yeah, those hides are pretty hard to come by. I found them almost by accident from a guy I know.

*SIGH*...guess you're just gonna have to send me yours then, Kurt.... :banllama:

09-30-2011, 03:43 AM
Sure. It's summer here now anyway. I won't need it. What's your postal address?
