I thought it'd be a good idea to have a reference thread for those of us who want to distress their Raiders jacket to the wear pattern in the movie. Of the 3 original movies, it's the most difficult distressing to make out. What screengrabs / production stills have we got?

It's clearest in some of the posed publicity shots. I have a official pix one where it's very clear in places. I'll see if I can find the pic on the web somewhere....

These shots look very similar to the village jacket from ToD actually

True, the distressing is difficult to make out in any of the promo pics and stills I have...

djd here's that pic, and the first one is the prototype jacket, correct?

The distressing in Raiders is a lot more subdued and natural than the later ones (Nadoolman's touch perhaps?). The jacket in Temple looks like it's falling apart and the LC is very distinctive.

I don't know mate.... The pics of the ToD jacket in the village look quite similar to the raiders in terms of 'damage'. It's difficult for me to to a direct comparison because the best views I have show opposite sides of the jackets. Both raiders and ToD jackets look a hell of a lot better than the LC jacket IMHO

This look like the main hero jacket before the collar was elongated. (if such thing happened)

Do you consider it a possibility that he dropped in the water (chased by the natives) in the main hero jacket that was stretched in size due to becoming wet, or something?

The LC distressing is problematic. It looks like it was artificially distressed and is so "over the top" that it is actually part of the look, imo. I don't think you can truly nail the LC look without that distressing.

We may have to disagree on the Raiders vs Temple. The Temple jacket(s) looks like it's been to hell and back--to the point where stitching is coming undone. The Raiders, while it looks like it's been through the wringer as well, doesn't have that level of distressing. To my eyes at least.

I don't think it was elongated as such - I think what caused it is when the collar was popped in the first few days of shooting, the right side sagged over, creasing the fold in at a higher point than normal above the stand. So an already longish collar looks even longer and thinner on that side, especially as the other gear he wears (and maybe keping something in his right pocket?) pulls that side down.

Perhaps that side was embroidered? I hear that causes all sorts of wild things to happen. ;)
