Leather update:

Shrunken Lambskin - There's a new batch of Shrunken Lamb with enough left for 3-4 jackets. It is similar to Gunslinger's SSL, but just a bit less on the Shrunken Grain exposure. From photos it's difficult to see the difference. It is made from merino skins. Riley just refers to it as his latest Shrunken Lamb.

Newly Completed Jacket with hides:

Shiny Vintage Goat - There is still enough Shiny Vintage Goat leather available for 3-4 jackets also. That's the last of all the goat skins Tony had. After it is broken in, it is difficult to tell the difference from the NO Shine Vintage Goat (sold out). Especially to the naked eye. In photos the more glossy aspects of the Shiny Vintage Goat are visible.

Shiny Vintage Goat Hide:

Tony's well worn and broken in Shiny Vintage Goat Jacket:

Versus my well worn and broken in NO Shine Vintage Goat Jacket (sold out) for comparison:

Dirty Oil Cowhide - Enough for a handful of jackets. Interesting enough, it is very similar to the American Stallion Horsehide. Instead of the red undertones of the American Stallion Horsehide, it has a much more brown undertone. It presents exactly the same way as the horsehide with just the undertone difference: thick, heavy, durable. To the naked eye the super-red undertone of the horsehide doesn't stand out like it does in the last photo and could easily be confused with the diry-oil. To the touch they're the same.

Versus American Stallion (none available):

Italian/Surrogates Cowhide Leather - Shipment arrives next week to fulfill orders

Italian/Raiders Cowhide Leather (747) - Shipment arrives next week to fulfill orders

Crystal Skull Cowhide Leather - Shipment arrives next week to fulfill orders

Happy Cowhide Leather - Enough for 1 jacket left

Oiled Suede Cowhide - On order to replace Happy Cow - Check out the movie 'End of Days' for a jacket made out of this leather

It's all so tempting! And that Goat just SCREAMS ToD to me. How does it distress, Bryan? You think you could get a ToD looking distressing out of it?

10-01-2010, 10:46 PM
I don't know. Maybe. The person to ask would probably be Han Jones. If you get the chance maybe post a picture about what you're talking about with the TOD distressing.

Fortune and Glory member "neutronbomb",
Thank you for the information and the pictures of the various leathers available. Much appreciated. ;D Emailed Mr. Barrie about what leathers he had available about two weeks ago with no response, though I was informed, later, that he was in Las Vegas for that first week. But this post just answered my questions and I will contact Mr. Riley to finalize everything.

Just hope my emails aren't being bounced into Mr. Riley's spam folder like before until Fortune and Glory member "RCSignals" contacted him for me.

Thank you again, sir. Much appreciated. :)

Your welcome. Choose wisely 8)

Your welcome. Choose wisely 8)

LOL. Choosing wisely is the HARDEST part of this. One can go insane in trying to decide. I emailed Mr. Riley with the decision to go with the "Crystal Skull" leather in a "Last Crusade-Crystal Skull" hybrid jacket with more rounded collar tips, more scalloped front cargo pocket flaps, and segma snaps on the jacket instead of the post snaps.

But, man, when doing research and seeing the Nowak-Barrie "ROTLA" jackets, "TOD" jackets, the "LC" jackets and the "KOTCS" jackets...they ALL look great. If I could afford to do so, I would get one of each.

Just have to stand firm with my decision considering the history and lineage of the jacket.

10-02-2010, 02:35 AM
I've always thought that the vintage goat would make a terrific ToD jacket. I've thought about that one a lot. But, in the end, I finalized my order today for a ToD in the Happy Cow. That was the leather that Tony told me was his personal choice for the Temple jacket so I went for that. Not necessarily the best time for me to get a jacket right now, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to have a Nowak in the last movie jacket I "needed".

Talked a little with Riley today and he said he'd keep going as long as the orders kept coming in so, if you're thinking about getting one of these, now is the time.

10-02-2010, 07:35 AM
Yeah, I was looking at that goat and kind of salivating, I didn't even know he had that, ah well. :'( Another era passes too quickly.

10-07-2010, 05:12 AM
Just a note. I don't think the Tron jacket above is Horse hide. It is a cowhide. The movie Tron jacket is Kangaroo, and has a couple different details (changes asked for by the owner of that jacket)

10-07-2010, 05:44 AM
Well I just happen to be in L.A very soon. I think I'll go see Riley and maybe get a Raiders in 747. :P

10-07-2010, 06:38 AM
Ok thanks for the clarification on that RCSignals. I grabbed that from another post and must not have gotten it right. I'll remove the Tron jacket photo.

10-09-2010, 01:43 PM
Hollywood is like everywhere else. It's WHO you know not WHAT you know. ;D

10-13-2010, 03:56 AM
Well, received my payment invoice from Mr. Barrie concerning my jacket and payment has immediately been expedited. Hopefully, and Godwillingly, soon I will be a proud owner of a Indiana Jones "Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" styled Tony Nowak Original by Riley Barrie. ;D ;D ;D ;D

The anticipation...the anxious waiting.....unbearable. :'( But, well worth it. ;D Stay tuned....... ;)

10-13-2010, 04:46 AM
I can't wait to see it!

10-13-2010, 04:49 AM

Thanks, "RCSignals". Neither can I. HA. :P

Thanks for posting that clip. I like that jacket. I'm going to have to call Riley for and get a Arnold classic.

My ToD Happy Cow is getting close as well. The waiting doesn't get any easier! ;)

Fortune and Glory member "Crismans",
You lucky dog. Guess you were the fortunate one to use the last of the "Happy Cow" for a "Temple of Doom" jacket. :)

If the opportunity, and funds, are available, and depending on the outcome of my "KotCS" jacket, I am seriously considering purchasing a "RotLA" jacket from Mr. Barrie.

We shall see.

10-13-2010, 09:45 PM
I could be wrong ... but the way I have heard it was that they (of course) were good friends. But that Tony would get jobs based on the quality of his work, not his personal relationships with above the line talent.

Tony was the best, period.

Yes as I said they were careful to avoid that sort of accusation. Too bad it was made anyway.

My distinct understanding is Arnold NEVER played favorites with ANYONE, and wouldn't have sent someone to Tony to make something. Tony got the T3 jacket job at the last minute. the company that was to make the jacket couldn't, and couldn't make one that fit Arnold properly. The jacket was designed by the movie costume Designer, although other claims have been made.
tony was able to make the jacket, and make one that fit Arnold. Arnold initially had no idea Tony was involved.
Arnold tried the costume made by Tony on and said "now that's what I'm talking about" Tony was spying in, Arnold had no clue it was made by Tony until after that.

Some people have great trouble believing the original company couldn't make such a jacket. It's simply how it was.
When you see the jacket on screen it is the jacket Tony made. End of story.

BTW does anyone know where Arnold was last weekend? (8-10 Oct)

Nothing wrong with a personal recommendation!

If I went that far back with someone, and they were having trouble with something that was my specialty I would be a bit miffed if he didn't recommend me!

I agree Kt. In this case it didn't happen, and they were both careful to avoid it. Both understood. That's what i'm trying to point out especially in the face of other claims.

Tony did do work for Planet Hollywood, Fashion Cafe, Gold's Gym, World Gym, Mr Olympia, Arnold Classic, and the Governor of California.

10-22-2010, 09:50 PM
Leather update:

Mocha Cowhide - soft, rich, thick, chocolate mocha cowhide. Tony had a batch last year that sold out fast. Probably my personal cowhide favorite.

Riley's personal Surrogates Jacket made from it:

Here's the Mocha cowhide itself:

Dark Crystal Skull Cowhide - one full hide left

Oiled Suede - very dark chocolate brown. The photos take the brown tone out a bit. The third photo is closest to true color.

10-22-2010, 10:35 PM
Those pics you took of my jacket look great Bryan!! Thanks! ;D

10-22-2010, 11:17 PM
Fantastic stuff.

the Mocha cowhide makes a great alternate leather for the Surrogates jacket.

10-23-2010, 12:46 AM
I so wish he could source some of that HH Tony was talking about before his passing (the one from the tannery that supplies Alden). That stuff would make a fantastic Surrogates jacket. Not SA at all, of course, but it would be gorgeous.

10-27-2010, 09:35 PM
I agree Crisman, it would be fantastic in that Horse Hide.

10-28-2010, 01:46 AM
I have a swatch of the hide you speak of. Tony gave me it when I was visiting him at his shop. We were talking about what jacket I was going to get him make using it.

10-29-2010, 12:37 AM
It was really a fantastic leather. I hate that it's not available.

11-10-2010, 09:34 AM
Great Leather choice!
I think Han Jones owns an Indy Jacket of that Mocha Cowhide.
The burgundy Lining looks also very impressive!

It's like Tony is still around after seeing new jackets!

11-10-2010, 06:43 PM
Hey topper you need a Surrogates jacket

Han Jones
11-10-2010, 06:51 PM
I do have a Raiders in cow mocha. It is soft and strong. A great leather and one of my best.

That Surrogates in the mocha is stunning. +1 on loving the lining.

08-22-2011, 08:31 PM
I ususally don't have trouble getting in touch with Riley but it has been a long time since our last communication so does anyone know what is up?

08-22-2011, 08:56 PM
I talked to him 2 weeks ago when I received my new Raiders jacket, and he said he was still looking for the proper fabric for my next jacket. Hope all is well with him, and there is no problems with anything.

09-09-2011, 05:32 PM
Ok so I sent Riley an email regarding another jacket and haven't heard anything for almost 2 weeks. Hope all is well. I usually hear from him with in 2-3 days of sending an email. Anyone have any insight now?

Han Jones
09-12-2011, 06:52 PM
I have not heard from him for months now and no one I know has gotten any jackets, I hate to say it but I think it might over.

09-12-2011, 07:37 PM
Well, that is not good news at all. If it's over, one of the greatest jacket vendors is gone. Hopefully it's not true and something comes out. I hope Riley can be contacted by someone, or he will address something here or whatever.

09-12-2011, 08:12 PM
Has anyone tried contacting him on Facebook? I sent him a message there too, and NADA! :hairguy:

Odd there hasn't been more talk about this elsewhere as people were making accusations about the LA District Attorney, blah. I figured there be 'I told you so's' and assorted lies thrown around.

09-18-2011, 12:41 AM
I hope things are alright. But it's a shame that nobody can get in touch with him. I had received my Raiders from him a few months ago and we started going over the details for my Tron order and when the time came to place the order and send the payment, I wasn't able to contact him by phone or email.

09-27-2011, 09:28 PM
Here's everything that I know:

1. Marie and Riley are focusing on the Arnold classic or whatever big body building event is going on in Spain/Europe next week.
2. They've taken a step back from making jackets for fans right now as a jacket or two a week takes relatively a lot of work, but doesn't generate enough to keep the business a float.
3. They are focusing all their time on work that generates the revenue streams the business needs. Basically large jacket runs for shows and businesses and some movie work.
3. He has all the interested individuals communications regarding jacket interest saved and in an ordered list so that when if they are able to get back to making jackets for individuals they'll be able to contact them. But again, they've stepped back from that for now.
4. One jacket is made for a person in Japan. Once he is able to make payment arrangements, he'll be able to ship it out.

09-27-2011, 10:20 PM
Thanks for the update neutron. Makes perfect sense. Good to know that all is well.

09-27-2011, 11:40 PM
Your welcome. The previous post was meant to be simply a direct status update so to speak. Exact as it was relayed to me from Riley with nothing personal input from me. I did get his permission to let others know what he told me. I haven't talked to him in like a year so it's not like I have all this inside info or tons of access or anything.

I figure anything I say here will be twisted by Patterson so the less I personally say about this subject the better. Everyone should know at this point that Patterson LIES completely and endlessly, but still, I'd hate to see some stupid "update" of "it's my understanding" go out to Cow from Patterson based on a bunch of stuff or comments I say here so I'll refrain as much as possible.

I do want to say that I totally wish Marie and Riley the very best and success for the future. I hope ultimately they can work everything out and get on top of all their major priorities going on right now.

09-28-2011, 02:07 PM
Agreed 100%.

Hopefully they can come back strong and keep everything running.

02-03-2012, 01:52 PM
Any updates from Riley's shop?

02-28-2012, 03:00 PM
Anyone heard back from Riley yet? Been saving my pennies for a TN "Hero" :sheep:

03-01-2012, 09:39 PM
Thought the shop was closed...Is Riley still filling out orders?

03-04-2012, 02:38 AM
so, no news?

03-04-2012, 02:46 AM
Nope-no new news. Although I know Riley is currently at the Arnold Classic.

04-16-2012, 06:12 PM
After recently looking at pictures, on this site and others, of all the jackets produced by both Mr. Nowak (rest in peace) and by his stepson Mr. Riley Barrie...IMHO, THE best jackets ever to be produced. The high quality, the beautiful craftsmanship, and attention to detail. Second to none.

I am blessed and fortunate enough to have two TNO jackets, one produced by Mr. Nowak himself and one produced by Mr. Barrie. We all can hope and pray that Tony Nowak Originals somehow, someway, and someday produces customs jackets for the general public consumer once again.

But, I am afraid the words of a fellow TNO jacket owner may ring true when he stated to me that we will probably never, ever see a run of quality jackets like Tony Nowak Originals produced. Hopefully, another vendor will "step up to the plate" and prove us wrong.

05-08-2012, 01:57 AM
Visited the shop today. Found a couple items and pics to update regarding the Tron and Torque threads. Marie and Riley have been focusing on doing runs of jackets for bodybuilding events. They're busy doing runs for a couple coming up later this year. They've been consolidating the business operation and focusing on building a foundation for moving forward with the business.

Even though they have taken a step back from everything, it looks like they will be staying in the jacket making business in one form or another. They are still coming to grips emotionally with Tony's passing and decisions with the business are of course being worked and reworked and change as the situation demands. It's no longer Tony's business, so in some regards they have had to start from scratch and decide how to build their business. My hat is off to Riley. I was very impressed and proud of him today. He has stepped up to the plate and I can see the progress that has been made since he took over in the beginning. He's got the confidence of the I know the deal look. He has taken the time to figure out much of the information necessary to running the operation and is really getting a handle on what they can do. He is not the sole owner and not able to make all decisions so there are many frustrations he must deal with. His patience is actually pretty inspiring. I also had the privilege of meeting his wonderful girlfriend and she mentioned a bit of all that he has been coping with and some of the mountains he's had to climb.

I remember after Tony passed how many of us saw how they (Riley) jumped in and started trying to juggle all the balls (I was informed that Tony slept, when he slept, from the hours of 2am to 4am) without having previously been involved in the business. I can see now that at some point you have to stop the madness, slow things down, assess everything, and then go from there. He's had to push away from the time consuming aspect of the custom jacket business and all the interactions it requires and really focus his time on all the other parts of what was and still is the core of Tony's jacket making business. He has figured out how to get parts that are as rare as unicorn hide to get some of the massive machines up and running and they are humming. He has been able to retain key staff, including Tony's sewer and cutter. They have been able to get themselves to some solid ground and build some momentum with some of the core elements.

A saying attributed to John Wayne comes to mind, "A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do", and it will be the answer to our future questions of what is going on. He's had to turn away completely from all aspects of the custom jacket business for now and likely into the future and there will continue to be ongoing changes to the TNO business. These changes don't mean the end. They mean they are doing what they must and evolving to stay in business and rebuild a business. Just remember to take a note of this post and come back and re-read this when some of this becomes visible to us. And for hell's sake, before getting caught up in any rampant speculation over at Liars and Bullshit Central, hit me up; I may be able shed light on it at that time or as things unfold.

Ok. Now for some news I find exciting. Riley completed his first order for a film. I should have taken a picture of his smile when he told me. Hopefully, this is a previous avenue of Tony's that will open up for Riley. Who knows, but they tracked him down. He talked to them, sent them some of Tony's work. Went back and forth on some ideas and then got the gig. Working with the sewer and cutter on all those custom jackets initially I'm sure helped tremendously. They were able to knock the hero jacket out of the park so I think that's tremendous news. Who knows what the future holds there, but great job for Riley and Company getting their first movie gig. We'll have to wait until the movie comes out for me to reveal it, but a little bit of Tony lives on and something to look forward to down the road.

And last but not least. Indiana Jones and Custom Jackets. Not dead. On hold. Patience fellow grasshoppers. Patience. 8)

05-08-2012, 02:19 AM
"Neutronbomb"..THANK YOU for providing us with the updated information concerning TNO. It is greatly appreciated. And I sincerely and truly wish the entire Nowak family nothing but, the best and success in their future endeavors.

As for your last line "And last but not least. Indiana Jones and custom jackets. Not dead. On hold. Patience fellow grasshoppers. Patience.".... :) ;D :hail: An old saying comes to mind..."All good things come to those who wait." And eagerly await I shall.

05-08-2012, 04:46 AM
Reading this, and Riley picking up a movie job made me smile. I'd love another jacket from Riley at some stage, but if "all" that happens is that Tony's business morphs into something new that works for Riley & family, that's will be beautiful. Great to hear news like this.

05-08-2012, 05:02 AM
Yep. I second that (:agree:)

05-08-2012, 06:31 AM
I haven't heard from Riley for a few months on Facebook - the last good chat we had was when he shaved off his big moustache and walked around LA with a hitler moustache for a few hours!

05-08-2012, 12:05 PM
That's good to know. Patterson and a few others at COW continue to badmouth Riley and have no idea what they're talking about.

05-08-2012, 12:57 PM
Glad to hear everything is going well with him. Wish him the best!

05-08-2012, 01:32 PM
I like Riley - he seems like a fun guy with a great sense of humour. Patterson on the other hand....

05-08-2012, 06:42 PM
This is awesome news! I am sure Riley knows that demand is steadily increasing for Nowak Jackets and unlike the bulshit "statistical analysis" of Patterson's overview on the average price range of second hand nowaks (he was way off but thats not surprising to say the least), Nowaks are being sought after by numerous collectors and enthusiasts, myself being one of them ;D.

Good Luck Riley! Cant wait to meet ya (because you know I will be driving down to your shop to order my jacket in person, only 30 mins away from me!...but maybe im getting ahead of myself ;))

05-22-2012, 06:27 AM
From Riley:

"Hey all,

I was just clued in on the entire Patterson fiasco.......WOW
This is what is going on with Tony Nowak:
We are currently in the process of selling the building in which the factory is located, our website is under construction, and a NEW email address is to follow soon. Our factory will be reopening in a new smaller location, and I hope to relaunch the Indy sales, as far as I know we have never intentionally duplicated numbers, and I am sorry that it became an issue. I do have all 4 original registry books with all the numbers used and names associated with them. Only open numbers are available.

I will try to keep everyone posted as to the future of Tony Nowak, but in the meantime, we are planning a warehouse sale, selling off any jackets that are in the factory, and I will be adding some jackets to ebay, so keep checking there as well.

05-22-2012, 01:25 PM
This is great news! I'm also looking forward to see what some of these jackets are going to be he'll be selling.

05-22-2012, 03:00 PM
FACTORY SALE?!?!? Say when and Im there!!! ;D

05-22-2012, 11:41 PM
FACTORY SALE?!?!? Say when and Im there!!! ;D

Me too. I hope Riley will let know when this is going on.

05-23-2012, 01:46 AM
Factory sale eh?

Why oh why did I ever choose to live in Tokyo? Someone? Anyone? Dammit..... :hairguy:

Factory sale eh?

Why oh why did I ever choose to live in Tokyo? Someone? Anyone? Dammit..... :hairguy:

You can get some great deals on Japanese guitars though!

05-23-2012, 02:11 AM
Hahah..If anyone feels like swapping for one of those with me, I'd be more than glad to take them up on the chance...I can't play guitar!! LOL...

Besides which, Japan isn't really a "deal making" place....The "Factory outlets" here sell Levi jeans for 7000 yen (70 dollars) rather than the "usual" 10,000 yen plus (100 dollars)...And that's about as "cheap" as it'll get....

Tokyo is an expensive place to live...LOL

Hell, an apple costs me 500 yen (5 dollars)...Go figure eh?

05-23-2012, 02:48 AM
Ok Teaser trailer.

Tentative plans for Tony's shop's Estate Sale is for June 15th, 16th, and possibly 17th. There are hundreds upon hundreds if not thousands of jackets crammed into his shop. Riley will be working on getting them all out on racks to sell. Basically, 20 years of Tony's jacket storage. All kinds of unique stuff. Lot's of planet hollywood. Lot's of body building. Lot's of one off unique stuff.

It's not going to be like all different sizes of unsold indy or surrogates or tron runs or anything like that. Those were customs made on a customer by customer basis and then sent off. It's more of a bazaar of who the hell knows.

More info and times to come.......when Riley let's me know.

05-23-2012, 03:57 PM
i am down anyway. Just to revist the shop again and meet Riley (who i've never had the chance to meet) is enough to draw me down there.

Be sure to ask Riley if this is gonna be a cash only sale or if he is accepting other forms of payment!

And members are required to wear "HELLO. MY NAME IS_______" tags with your name and your screen name (just kiddin, but it wouldnt be a had idea).

05-23-2012, 06:07 PM
Damn what I wouldn't give to be there for those dates. I've always wanted to see the shop and would kill for some of Tony's bodybuilding jackets.

If anyone is going, if I paypalled you some money would you mind grabbing me one?

07-09-2012, 05:56 PM
Check out http://www.tonynowak.com/

Great to see they will be back soon!

07-09-2012, 06:18 PM
Thanks for the link, "Topper". Much appreciated. Website..bookmarked in my "favorites" list!!

07-11-2012, 07:30 AM
I'm looking forward to this. Now I'll finally be able to get that surrogates made that I had been discussing with Riley.

09-05-2012, 07:16 PM
Has anyone heard any updates? I was hoping to hear if Riley and team would be accepting alteration requests on jackets.

10-28-2012, 05:21 AM
As "TheExit148" stated in the last post in this thread, has anyone heard any news concerning Mr. Riley Barrie's status with Tony Nowak Originals once again taking orders for custom "Indiana Jones" jackets?

Eagerly awaiting to hear positive news concerning this.

05-01-2013, 05:39 PM

Has anyone heard ANY news concerning the status of Tony Nowak Originals offering custom jackets to the public? Any and all information would be greatly appreciated.

05-01-2013, 06:28 PM
Or even if he can take jackets for zipper repairs or anything like that? Not sure I trust local people to get it done right.

08-27-2013, 06:49 PM
Any news from the shop at all? Anyone?

08-29-2013, 09:03 PM
No nothing. I'll check in with Riley and see if anything is on the radar.

10-02-2013, 03:01 PM
No nothing. I'll check in with Riley and see if anything is on the radar.

Any news Neutron?

10-04-2013, 03:02 PM
I've pinged Riley a couple times and haven't heard back. When I do I'll update.

03-01-2014, 01:41 AM
Since nothing has been reported concerning the status of Tony Nowak originals for quite some time, is it safe to say this vendor is no longer a viable option?
