Disney announced today that Indy 5 will reteam Ford with Spielberg, Kennedy & Marshall for a new film slated for release on July 19, 2019. Lucas will not be involved.

Indy 5 in 2019! (http://deadline.com/2016/03/steven-spielberg-harrison-ford-team-up-for-indiana-jones-5-disney-sets-july-2019-release-1201720725/)

Good news, Lucas will not be involved. Bad news..how do they make such an old Indy work.

Probably the same way they made an older Han Solo work. :)

I think Harrison will be great and I love the idea of seeing Indy through all these stages of life.

It'll be interesting to see how they do this. Ford will be in his mid-70s when this is made, so obviously he won't be the only lead. Who will be with him? Will another alum return (what's Sallah or Short Round up to these days)? Will Mutt return (surely they wouldn't bring back LaBoeuf after he trash-talked CS)? Will Ford bookend a flashback adventure his younger self had (nah, they wouldn't bring Ford back just for bookends)? Will the time period now be the 60s? The 70s? Who will write it? A lot of fans still like the notion of seeing an adaptation based on the Fate of Atlantis. Should be fun once the intel starts rolling in closer to production.

John Rhys Davies always reminds Spielberg that the best loved are the odd numbered films, and what do those 2 have in common... Salah of course!

First comment I make about all this. I have mixed emotions, like NB.

I'm happy they are making it.
But having another 2 hours of a clearly old Indy (even older now), just it doesn't feel exciting...

I was hoping for the next movie, to see the story of Indy in his mid 20's. Different actor as Indy, off course.
And also a different director.
I found the last films Spielberg did, kind of "copying himself on the general terms, with neatest and clean details"....if that makes sense.
And one of the things I like about Indy 1, 2 and 3 is that, the overall look, is kinda "rough".

Let's hope for the best.-

Same here, I think. It's good a weak link has been removed (Lucas) but they're pushing the limits of belief for a man close to 80 to be swinging on a whip and punching bad guys. Ford pulled it off in Crystal Skull well enough, but "Indy" (not Ford) was only about 57-58 years old anyway in that movie.

I too, was hoping for a younger actor to step into the role and let all hell break loose. The 1930's was a fantastic time for adventure; I'd like to return to it in the films.

I didn't mind it when Last Crusade had a group following Indy around at the end, but Crystal Skull started to pile it on, with four additional characters following Indy, each with nothing much to do. I fear they might increase this load in the fifth installment- can't we have just Indy (and maybe Marion again) off on an adventure without a plethora of sidekicks?

I wonder if Spielberg still has it in him. Why not get George Miller? That'd be insane, of course, but what a hell of a movie that would be! ;)

They really should have pushed for these movies much earlier, like back in the mid 1990's.

^ Yeah, in the 19 years between LC and CS, we coulda had at least 3 or 4 additional Indy movies with Ford still relatively in prime shape.

As for a younger Indy, I suppose it's still a possibility. At this stage, we only know Ford will be back, but they could do something like the Young Indy episode "Mystery of the Blues" with Ford as "old" Indy bookending the main part of the story.

LATEST NEWS: My hopes have sunk a wee bit -- David Koepp, the screenwriter of CS, is on board for the new film. Of course, the last time he was saddled with a Lucasian story, so who knows... :D

I looked over his resume' and he's a mixed bag in my book- I liked some of the films he's written, and detested some of the others. A few more fall into the "neutral" category, too.

That sort of lowers my hopes as well. Surely, Disney and Spielberg realized that CS wasn't well liked (even though it pulled in a lot of money), so I'm not sure why they would bring back the script writer who penned CS. I would rather have had the writers who penned the Mummy movies. They were closer to the spirit of the original movies than CS.

I know it's big business, and decisions are going to be made on the basis of what they think will maximize profits. Unfortunately, I think it will satisfy those interests whether it's good or not. If I'm not mistaken, KOTCS made plenty of money in spite of it's failure with both critics and fans. I remember hearing a reporter on an NPR program leading up to the release of KOTCS proclaiming the movie 'critic proof' before it's release!

I just hope that business interests aside, those with creative control, the people actually making the movie, are passionate about making a good Indiana Jones movie that will do something to wash the bad taste of the last one away. Here's hoping anyway!

I think there are a lot of people not least Ford and Spielberg who want to see the next and possibly final HF Indy film do well and restore folks faith in the franchise. this is a big deal for Disney .. its half the reason the spent 50 billion buying Lucasfilm so you have to look at it from the point of view that no one wants it to fail financially or critically .. as we've seen with a lot of other stuff its incrementally harder to reboot a franchise after each misfire ...
in my heart of hearts sure i'd want SS and Larry Kasdan on this one as i think we all love Raiders BUT .. the family audience figures are definitely to be found in the more modern ToD, LC and KOTCS .... as much as Skull had faults i don't hate it and .. its the biggest grossing indy to date and as STTFA has proven .. modern audiences want a different kind of film ..

i think it will be a goodie for the reasons stated and i'm just glad to be getting another Indy with Harrison Ford ... awesome
