Hi everyone,i bought last year 9 aged aniline lambskins leather skins(dark chestnut) ,thikness 0,9mm to a french tannery,it costed me 175€ -240$ for the skins..at first i wanted to make a crusade jacket but i found the beautiful Nowak crusade jacket,so i though to fit the skins on a Temple jacket..

My specs are:

-lining,all brown cotton, the same who fits the Hero jacket.
Special request:
-Zip,YKK N°8 Nickel heavy gauge, stopped 1 inche before the bottom of the stormflap.
-the same largest collar who fit the Raiders "standard" jacket.
-Old Logo "leather concessionaires" like the Hero jacket.

Thanks !
This week i will go to a very big shop in my town(Marseille-France)specialized in leather skins,i find a very beautiful dark brown calfskin in french it calls "plongé-aniline" for the texture, they have numerous of these skins, because it is some largest skins, you need only 2 to fit a jacket, but these leather skins are pretty expensive approximately 150€/skin..

Very nice indeed! I love the drape & folds in that last rear-view shot.

That jacket rocks 8) It's beautiful and the chestnut color really works IMO. What are your plans with the calfskin?

10-30-2013, 11:32 PM
I bough the calfskin this afternoon at Varjan company in my town,i will make some picture and ship it to Wested to fit another Temple jacket more SA this week!
It's a dark brown calfskin,very deep brown,0,9mm,very supple,huge 2 square meters -90cm,only one is sufficient to make one jacket i think,it cost me 200€..
The quest continue..Indy_dead_horse!

Every time I hear of calfskin leather, can not help but think of a certain "industry insider in his own delusional, twisted warped" mind who stated that all "Indiana Jones" fans who speculated on what leather THE "Raiders of the Lost Ark" jacket was made of were all...and I quote..."smoking rope" after his supposed "meeting" with Neil Cooper in New York City at some high end restaurant where Mr. Cooper "stated" the jacket was made out of calfskin.

Ah, the good old days.

But, I digress...looking forward to seeing your calfskin "Temple of Doom" jacket from Wested Leather.

By the way, "Indymassilia", any chance of informing us or maybe a picture of the snaps being used on the front flap cargo pockets on the Wested Leathers "Temple of Doom" jacket? Would please like confirmation if they are post snaps or spring "nipple" snaps. Any and all assistance for my inquiry would be greatly appreciated.

Her is the picture of the snaps inside the front cargo pocket of the Temple jacket!

A sincerest THANK YOU to you, "Indymassilia" for providing the picture requested. Much appreciated.

It appears that if I order a "TOD" from Wested, going to swap out the front flap cargo pocket snaps from the post snaps Wested uses to the spring "nipple" snaps. Did that for my Wested "Hero" jacket using a local tailor. Yes, I know it is "nitpicking" but, prefer those snaps for my "Indiana Jones" jackets along with those snaps being "screen accurate".

Thank you, again.

10-31-2013, 05:20 PM
Hold on a sec. I know I haven't spent much time on the TOD side of things, but we know for sure that the TOD jacket had the other snaps?

Oh and the "cokehead from the 80's" remembered it was "oil-pulled" calfskin at the fairy tale dinner. Always so over-exact with the details. The shame is the ripple effect. Suddenly Wested starts offering oil-pulled calf and then Holt declares the Bantu-wind/prototype is calf and then....well, thankfully we have F&G. You know, the place where we "know everything" :-*

10-31-2013, 10:51 PM
As for whether the "Temple of Doom" jacket used the spring a.k.a. "nipple" snaps...that I am NOT absolutely sure about. Thought I saw a picture of the Noel Howard jacket that was on loan to Wested Leather where one of the pockets were open and it showed what type of snap was being used. Going to have to "dig" around for those pictures.

So my comment concerning the spring "nipple" snaps being "screen accurate" for the "Temple of Doom" jacket may or may not be correct until further confirmation. And my apologies for stating so.

Forgive me...I was "smoking rope" at the time.

"Cokehead from the 80's" HA! Forgot about that phrase that was coined from the "industry insider" who had an obsession with redheads.

My ToD that I bought from Wested about 3 years ago has the "nipple" snaps.

I found a new batch of 8 "plongé-aniline" leather lambskins-chocolate -brown,so like the calfskin i bought was easy to find, for the moment i don't really need it, i sell this skin in the Omar's garage..here is a picture of the lambskins batch, ready to ship to Peter to make another Temple jacket!

Need to find someone to take a picture with fitting the jacket ;)

01-13-2014, 02:20 AM
Very nice. I really like that leather. I have to say (at the risk of being drummed out of the Raider's club ;) ), that if the pockets were just a bit bigger, I think the Temple jacket would be my favorite.

02-22-2014, 12:36 PM
A new batch of lambskins shipped to Wested last week to make probably my last TOD custom jacket and achieve this quest !
This time it was a batch of a very very dark brown ,"Moka" color, always in "plonge"..
Like my TOD measurements are between the 44 and 46 size,i choose a 44 size for a summer jacket ,the jacket is in production now...pictures will be post soon.

After seeing your beautiful jackets "Indymassilia", I "broke down" and "pulled the trigger" on my own Wested Leather custom "Temple of Doom" jacket.

The leather I chose was their soft seal brown cowhide which is basically a dark brown leather with the weight of a heavier lambskin but, with the durability of cowhide. Absolutely love that leather. I have a Wested "Hero" jacket in that leather. I asked for their thinnest soft seal brown cowhide available.

I sent Wested Leather nickel spring snaps a.k.a. press studs a.k.a. "nipple" snaps and black metal rectangular D rings to use for my jacket.

Eagerly awaiting for it's arrival which should be soon.

GOOD NEWS my friend, and good choice for the leather!
I found a picture of the moka skins i sended for the new jacket and the picture of the movie where i really love the dark brown hue:

02-23-2014, 08:53 PM
You sent your own hides?

02-23-2014, 09:43 PM
I really like the graining of your hides. (Visible on the left)

Also, note Ford's sleeve. See the striation lines of "ribby" bubbles? So looks like ribby merino would also be an accurate hide choice for a ToD jacket - just not as crazy as the Raiders.

Yes,it's difficult to find a batch of good skins to have a SA effect..
Yes RCSignals ,you can find a new batch of very nice lambskins on Ebay France ,the same seller where i found the moka lambskins:

I can't wait to see how yours turns out!

The ToD jacket is my favorite(Raiders is a VERY close 2nd), and I really hope to own one someday maybe taking the same route you are. I started watching that seller now, trying to find a set of skins I like enough to get.

I believe this is the lambskin leather used in Raiders. I bought the chocolate colored version of the jacket and discuss the jacket further here http://www.fortuneandglory.org/threads/2568-TOD-French-Plonge-Jacket-Raiders-Film-Jacket-Leather

The thread for discussing the French Plonge leather as the Raiders film jacket leather is here:
