I just attended Wasteland Weekend (http://www.wastelandweekend.com) in California City. Costumes are required and must fit the post-apocalyptic aesthetic (ideally the one established in The Road Warrior/Mad Max 2, but they've expanded to include Fallout and other PA visions, but no zombies or cyborgs).

I spent most of my time working the event as an elite guard (seen in Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome) and some of the time as an MFP officer (Mad Max 1). Last year I thought, "How about a post-apocalyptic Indy version. How could I make that work?" Indy's color palette works better for Steampunk (brown leather and brass), but I figured 1) Anything goes as long as its beat up enough, and 2) After the end of civilization, you can create a whole new persona for yourself. The WW look is more black leather and chrome, but I didn't want to do a "black and white" Indy look, so I decided to modernize and idealize the gear.

I got pretty much everything on eBay. Here are the basics.

I was very happy with my bag. It was very inexpensive and a generous application of neatsfoot oil brought the leather back to life. Man, I love that character. And look how perfectly Gentleman Jack fits!

I didn't take any more in-progress photos because I was in a rush. I got a can of acetone and went to work on the jacket, but I finally just put it in a trash bag with some Fuller's earth and shook it up, and bingo! Instant old, dirty jacket.

My hat collapsed, my photos are uninspired and I need to work on my poses, but here you go.

Different boots. I found these Frye types and sold the other ones. I forgot to wear my shin guards.

This one is my favorite. It's everything but the jacket.

Back shot. Yes, that's Anthony De Longis.

I think it could use some refinement. If I end up wearing it again next year, I'll definitely get with one of the pro photogs and get some decent action photos.

Ok. I can't believe I overlooked this thread. Thank you for sharing first of all. 2nd of all you put together a pretty good look there with the theme you were going for. 3rd of all I like the shirt. What brand is it.

Great stuff Oildale! I love that satchel. You put the whole thing together extremely well.

I would have love to have gone there and worn some of my old clothes.

Thanks, and thanks. I'm a major procrastinator so the first time I actually put all the stuff on was at the event.

RF, what are you saying? That you'd use your less-than-SA gear as a post-apocalyptic outfit? Or that being in theme requires only that you wear some old clothes? Because although a few people expended the least amount of effort to be in theme, most of us cared enough to wear our very best. ;D

NB, I'll check on the shirt and get back to you.

Back shot.

I'm diggin' it. 8)

On a side note, I really like the utility belt- they always improve any sort of outfit, in my professional opinion.

Your shirt looks different. Cooler somehow and the pockets larger. Is it just optical illusion.

Maybe because they're not ironed flat? They're all poofy.

A couple more pictures popped up. I really like the whip action shot.

That's my boy TANK. He was an integral part of the Misfits back in the day. He comes out all the way from Jersey and got all yoked out to be Humungus last year. He's a little obsessed. (I wish I could be that fanatical about my fitness.)

What a coincidence. I just pulled that pic at random from google (his pic was better than all the screen shots I found). Had no idea you knew him.

When you say the "Misfits" and New Jersey, are you talking about Glenn Danzig's old band?

The same.
