Is Akubra no longer offering the Federation? I was looking at their site to check prices and couldn't find it.

I've not seen the Federation offered on the Akubra website ever....(Or in the last 2-3 years since I've been aware of them anyway..)...

They're a Hats Direct product, although the hat is made for them (And was designed with them) by Akubra as far as I knew?

http://hatsdirect.com/federation/index.html

They're still for sale there...But, like I said, I've never seen them on the main Akubra hats website. :)

You're right. It's been a long while since I've checked so I've forgotten that. Much thanks!

No worries!

(I'm still so new to good gear that I still have links to the Dorfman hat collection.....Back from when I thought they might be "it"...LOL...)

All the best. :drink:

You know, lately I've been very nostalgic for the kinds of searches and gear that I used to pursue back in the day. I'd love to pick up an Akubra "Drover", and see what I could do with it. I don't even hope for an SA result; really, I've given up on that whole pursuit. Good looking, well made, funtional "Indyesque" stuff is what I go for these days.

Even so, I've always wanted to try a Federation, but the crown was always too darn tall.

I find myself in the same mindset. Total SA is something that I'll never realize. I still like to get close (on jackets anyway), but getting items that carry the Indy vibe that will last my own adventures is what I'm drawn to.

Embrace SR! - screen reminiscence! It's not a clone, but it sure does remind you of what you're seeing on-screen. It's a great way to not drive yourself crazy(er).

I bought an Akubra Adventurer last October. I gave it an Indy bash, and swapped out the ribbon with a dark brown/black one. The Adventure's brim is a little wider than the Raiders film hats, but I think it looks great. The wider brim helps keep the sun off your face. I'm especially proud of the ribbon, as I made it myself (including the bow). I think it looks just as good as the original Akubra bow.

Pics!!! Pics!!! I'm interested to see an Akubra Adventurer plus your bow work.

Crismans taught me the secret of posting pictures. (Thanks a lot Crismans!)

I'm very happy with the hat. The original ribbon was the identical color as the hat. I went to a fabric store and bought some brown grosgrain ribbon, but it was still too light. So I decided to do a dye job on the ribbon. I used a mixture of black and dark brown. At the end of the day, the color turned out pretty good.

As far as the ribbon went, I just looked at the original Akubra ribbon (which is great in my opinion) and copied it. If you take your time, it's not so bad. I was able to get it tight to the brim (a pet peeve of mine).

Hope you like it.

Great job. Nothing like an Indy-style ribbon to make a hat look better.

Nice job on the ribbon and nice hat! I've not got an Akubra on hand, a situation I think I'll rectify in the next little bit. They really are good bangs for the buck. Indy-vibe and really tough.

Thanks. The brim on the Adventurer is about 1/2 an inch wider all the way around than a screen acurate hat. For those archeologists with bigger heads (hyuk hyuk) the Adventurer could be a good option to make the overall proportions correct.
