So, a while ago I acquired a beautifully made terracotta grail, it was pure fired terracotta so was quite light coloured and a perfect start for a project.

1) Acrylic painting with varying shades of brown red and spots of white.

2) After mixing up some shellac size I randomly daubed it on the cup and leafed it. After initially intending to try and follow the pattern of the screen used one, it worked out better to approach it more organically.

3) Final drybrush to add weathering and a coat of shellac to seal.

I'm very pleased at how it came out, considering that I haven't touched a paintbrush in about 20 years apart from to decorate the house!

That is good work! I agree that your organic approach really turned out well.

Cheers guys.

I urge you to have a try at this if you have a grail that needs painting. It is not technically difficult at all and very rewarding.

I know I'm coming in a little late here, but that work is impressive. It looks just like any of those I've seen in the photos of the actual props! 8)
