View Full Version : Show Your Gear on Location!

Okay, this thread's for ALL of us- post a pic of you wearing your gear in a location other than your house/backyard. It can even be something as simple as wearing your jacket on a night out on the town. (You don't have to be in full gear) The point is just to show you get the hell out from behind the keyboard once in a while and have an adventure!

I'll start with a few pics:

The Temple of Heaven in Beijing.

Elephant Rock State Park in Missouri.

We should also identify the gear we're wearing. I'm always curious about that.

Like the desert location shot.

Slightly less so here at the descendant tree planted on the spot of the famous Ichijoji pine that the great Japanese swordsman Miyamoto Musashi fought defeated a crazy amount of dudes many years ago. (I'm starting to realise I seem to always put mu hands on my hips in photos):

My jacket gets the most wear. I think hats are more mainstream in the US than the UK? You have the whole cowboy hat thing going on. I love hats but you get a lot of attention if you wear a formal type hat here. Doesnt stop me doing it from time to time but it's a factor

Baguio City was developed by the Americans to be their vacation spot after the Spanish-American war. It's because the city is situated atop a mountain and is quite cold. It's the best place to escape the summer heat over here.

I guess your right in that it does look like shrine. I have most of the jacket by the different makers, many which are not displayed. Also most of the fedoras and whips by the better makers. I lean toward raiders stuff but try and cover all the films. My wife says I'm crazy, no argument there. Really love the stuff. I bought my first whip and first Indy autograph in 1984.

October 2011 marked my first public outing in Indy gear: Mickey's Halloween something-or-other at Disneyland. I wore my Fed IV and Bantu Wind. (Although my son was fully into being Indy at the time, he decided to go as Woody one last time before he outgrew the costume.)

I ran into this dude and we compared hats.

In November, I took my wife and little Indy to the 30th Anniversary digital screening of Raiders at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood. The boy and I were the only ones who dressed for the occasion. It felt almost, but not quite, like those dreams you have where you realize you're naked at school.

The hat's an Akubra Federation, the regular version in "Carbon Grey".
The shirt in the top photo is a Magnoli Adventure shirt in black, and the shirt in the other two pics is an Orvis "Bush" shirt.

It's an "animated GIF" file, basically a short repeating video clip.

Thanks for the compliments! ;D What I posted has nothing to do with the actual project I'm working on, but it does feature an explosion and I wanted to try out some new effects to see how they work before doing the real thing.

We just started shooting last week, and it will be a while before we finish, but maybe I'll post it on this board somewhere. It's a short action-thriller, ought to be a lot of fun. (I hope.)

Posing is pretty much the whole point for me! :)

The photo was shot standard, and cropped to give that cinematic widescreen look. When it comes to landscapes, I tend to lean towards framing them horizontally, unless there's some tall object that warrants shooting in "portrait".

The pleasure is mine, as always! :)

Usually I plan in advance where I'm going, and if it would be inappropriate, there are items I don't take along. When I went to China and New York City, I left the whip at home- although it would have looked cool in certain places (The Great Wall, for example) I couldn't risk getting it confiscated.

Also, in 1998 I went to Hong Kong without my fedora, and in 1999 I went to Albuquerque without my fedora. Thus, the pics are not as awesome as they could be:

Great photo examples! I see what you mean. Great photos due to locations, but are a tad bit less dramatic without the hat. I'm guessing the hat is the most important item. Did you not bring the hat to those 2 locations because you forgot, or just didn't want the hassle?

I didn't become an "Indy Gear"-head until about 2002, although I wore a fedora on and off from 1989 through 1995. Those above pics were taken during a "hatless" phase. ;)

KidHuevos

Ha-ha, funny. Who takes all the photos of you that you use in these sorts of things, your wife?

Hell, no. The auto-timer is my best friend, as I have learned that my old lady is the second worst photographer on the planet, the worst being my mother. (But that's another story.)
If left to her own devices, my wife thinks these are great pics of me:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v208/Glurrk/WYampSD157_zps564dd67d.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v208/Glurrk/WYampSD196_zps54a7ce54.jpg

I am in both photos, although it's hard to tell, since my wife does not believe in close-ups. Even worse is when I give her specific instructions, she'll screw it up in some unforseen way. On one trip my daughter and I were scaling a large rock pile, and I told my wife to make sure she gets our feet in the picture so everyone can see how rocky the terrain was.

When I looked at the pic later, she took a picture of our boots and nothing else. Yet another Kodak moment forever ruined. :(

Here's a pic taken on a timer with a tripod:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v208/Glurrk/Part%20III/YellowstoneA_zps194b995d.jpg

Now THAT'S how it's done.

Thanks! I had been to Canada when I was about 6 or 7, and it was HIGH time to get back. It was a wonderful experience, and I will have to make plans to go back again at some point. :)

That pic was taken in 2009, and the boots I was wearing at that time were Danner Explorer boots.

They've gone up in price since I last bought a pair, but I found them sturdy and with good traction. I have since switched to Caterpillar Steel-Toe because occasionally things get dropped on my feet and the metal is awesome protection. It's horrible in the winter, because your toes freeze easily, but on the other hand I also have to boot open an occasional door and again, that metal shield does wonders. 8)

I have no concrete plans as of yet, but my wish list for 2015 includes the Grand Canyon, (returning to) Glacier National Park, Garden of the Gods in Colorado and Hocking Hills in Ohio (don't laugh, that state has some beautiful land in it.)

Ideally, I'd love to hit every single state in the US. Depends on time, money, the usual barriers to the pursuit of happiness. ;)

That's at Disney's Hollywood Studios near the Indiana Jones Stunt Show. It's the second time I've been near it, here is the first time back in 1993:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v208/Glurrk/Part%20III/LCTank1993_zpsblt4jumm.jpg

It's fenced off, but if someone wanted to, they could climb over the barrier easily. I'd rather not risk that, as security guards would probably jump out of hiding places and rip out an intruder's heart so fast, it would make Mola Ram proud. ;)

Picked up a few interesting tidbits about the car: It has motorcycle tires, because the tires manufactured for the car no longer exist. It has no back window, but has signal lights even though cars made at that time never had them (wherever the car was the last few decades it was mandatory to have signal lights, so they were installed) and I believe the owner said the car was built around 1939.

(and yes, the car is tiny! I'm only 5'7"!)
