View Full Version : Sleeve length

The sleeves of the Raiders jacket are supposed to end right where the thumb starts, exactly as we see in this picture:

Yet, I'm not sure there are many more shots in Riders where we can clearly see the sleeve length.
I tend to like shorter sleeves (in fact that's one of the reasons I don't like very much the LC/CS cut) and I was surprised the other day when I saw this:

And this shot too:

In those shots (all of them taken from the Making of Raiders) I see a much shorter sleeve than in the previous one, ending approximately one inch or even one inch and a half higher. In the last picture we could argue that Ford is something like crouching and starting to lift the arm, but in the the other two he seems to have a relaxed arm, the jacket sits perfectly on his shoulders, and the sleeve falls absolutely flat (no wrinkles at all).

My guesses are the following:

a) Maybe we are just seeing different jackets with different sleeve length or:
b) Maybe we are seeing the same jacket (or different jackets with the same sleeve length) but, in the previous picture, Ford was lifting his shoulders in a kind of an 'adventurer' pose, or:
c) The falling off the shoulder affects the place were the sleeves end.

Option b is the one that seems more probable to me.
In any case I like it. I think those sleeves give the Raiders Jacket a much more sportive look.

Any thoughts on this?

Interesting. I think I know some other places to look at the sleeve length too. I'll see in the next few days if I can get something up. But I think pretty much your right. Also, the pics below are of the main hero.

I don't think what I was able to find adds that much more to what you already had Rask. Below are some more of The Main Hero Jacket I was able to find. I didn't want to use scenes where he's wearing gloves or where the arms are bent at too great an angle so that limits the choices quite a bit. Maybe by going through all the behind the scenes footage that's out there there could be more possibilities, however, the ones you found already do a pretty good job. All of the photos we're using so far are of The Main Hero Jacket, so I think it comes down to several variables like how much the sleeve is wrinkled or if it's stretched out, how bent the arm is at the elbow, where the arm is inside the sleeve, where the jacket is positioned on the shoulders/body, and whether it is zipped or not. I agree with you that it is a sportier look when the sleeve rests further up towards the base of the thumb joint a bit away from the bottom knuckle.

Didn't notice your post until today, Neutron. Sorry for that. Thanks for your input, mate; very nice stuff. I'll look for some other screen shots from the behind the scenes videos; let's see if I can find someting more conclusive (although I doubt it).
