View Full Version : My TNO Raiders Hero/Hawaii Hybrid Jacket

Ok, so Kurt's jacket really did it for me. Those specs looked amazing, and I had to get one, or I knew I would regret it. I just knew it. But I didn't want all of Kurt's Hero details. So, I told Riley to use all of Kurt's specs, except keep the pockets and flaps, and the back panel gaps the same as the #000 jacket. What I got was this about 2 months ago, and its awesome.

Front Storm Flap/Back Length: 24"
Half Shoulder: 7"
Full Shoulder Across: 20"
Waist: 19.5"
Chest: 21.5"
Sleeve Length: 26.5"
Made in stirated lamb. There are smoother spots and grainier spots all over this thing. Its pretty crazy.

When it came it was slightly baggier then I wanted, which I kinda had thought might happen but was hoping wouldn't. So I soaked it in the shower with warm-hot water, then threw it in the dryer to speed up the drying and help with shrinking. It didn't go through a full dryer run, and was left to finish drying via padded hanger overnight. When it was done, the arms shrank up and in to the perfect length and almost the perfect bicep width. It could be more slimmer, but that's my personal preference. The back length and front length shrunk ever so slightly and really exaggerated the zipper curl, almost to the point where I am still debating to get it switched to a proper size one. Everything stayed pretty much the same, and it just looked and felt like it fit a whole lot more. Back and front length are 23.5" now and arm length is like 26-26.25" roughly. Liner needs to be adjusted to account for the shrinking. I want to do that soon haha.

Here are some pics taken today with the jacket. I tried to capture as best I could (via a tripod) the jacket with on and off shoulders looks. The jeans I'm wearing are also somewhat higher waisted to today's jeans since they are 1947 501 reproductions from Levi's' Levi's Vintage Clothing. Belt is about 1.5" from my belly button to give you an idea where my waist line is regarding the jacket length. I'm also 6 feet tall exactly.

Looking good. Now you need to wear it and let it soften up, especially after the wash/dryer treatment.

Zipper looks fine to me.

I'm surprised the vintage cut jeans don't have an even higher rise.

Thanks RC. I did the wash/dry treatment 2nd day I had it. I've been wearing it as much as possible. Still kinda stiff in areas, but breaking back in nicely.

Funny thing about the jeans. They are "shrink to fit" too and man did these ever shrink! You have to do the old "bathtub hot water soak". Lets just say blue ring around the tub, blue ring around my stomach when I put them on wet to help with creases, plus I had to suck it in so much to do them up. But like all jeans they stretch out and are good now. Compared to my Levi's Vintage Clothing 1967 505's and my pair of 501's from Jcrew last year, the waist is higher on these 501's probably by an inch. The whole rear/waist construction is different then today's Levi's. Probably the best pair of jeans I've ever had. I would recommend them to anyone.

Beautiful leather and it looks like it shrank to fit very nicely!

Awesome jacket. The fit looks good and I like the zip too 8)

Did the dryer bring out more texture in the hide?

Thanks guys. Fit is pretty good now. And hopefully, as long as I don't gain a massive amount of weight, this should fit for a long time.

The soak/drying didn't really bring out anymore grain that I could notice at all. But while wearing it more and more, pieces are getting more grain then others.

I also like the zipper curl or as Platon puts it the "Demon Roll" of The Main Hero. Yours has a nice effect if that's what you're going for. It looks like to me it's an overall snugger fit especially in the shoulders and arms than the movie jacket, so its Trippy to hear you say it could be even more snug. I do like the look though on you and based on the clothes your wearing and your penchant for preferring tighter clothes I think you made the right decision. The sloppier look of The movie jacket probably wouldn't look as well with your regular daily wear. Did you ask for tighter through the shoulders and arms?

Also, I'm now curious about why 1947 is a cool year for Levi's jeans and 1967 also. I'm off to the land of google to find out.

This jacket is probably my most "baggier jacket" in the shoulders. Most jackets I get are about 6.25"-6.5" half shoulder with around 18.5"-19" across the shoulders. Still measures that too after the soak. I just want the bicep to be slimmer in general. I have slim arms!

For 501's, read all about them here. http://www.superfuture.com/supertalk/showthread.php?t=34010. Probably the best read on the net regarding the 501 jean.

I'm not entirely sure if 1967 was a cool year for Levi's, I'm sure it was for something. I just wanted the '67 505 because it's supposed to be a slimmer cut compared to some of the other LVC jeans. But when I got the 1947 501 which is Levi's slimmest version of the 501, I was shocked how slim it was in the thighs, waist, and rear. Best fitting jeans I have, and still they have just about an 8" leg opening.

Once you go down into the selvedge/raw denim rabbit hole, you will NEVER COME BACK!

Great lookin' jacket. Looks perfect on you, and I love the texture. Totally jealous since I canceled my Raiders SL.

Where does one buy those jeans?

I know. I edited them slightly and overwrote them, but when it was put in the original post, the image tag and the width and height, and I can't re-edit the post. I will add the pics again in the proper ratios.

If you drag and drop them on your desktop, they regain their original format. At least they do on a Mac.
